refer to her Wagnerian tendencies and dramatic prowess. Coaches at the Metropolitan opera have! praised her for her vocal versatility,
and the beauty of her voice in the role of Bellini‘s ‚Norma‘. Heidi Muendel is an exciting and diverse young professional
singer known for moving her audiences with her resonant sound and sensitive drama.
Ms. Muendel is a Regional Finalist of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and holds a Master of Music Degree in Opera Performance
from the University of British Columbia. In 2010 Heidi received the Canada Council Career Development grant for her
role studies in Florence Italy. She attended the International Vocal Arts Institute with Joan Dornemann in Montreal, Canada
and received a private scholarship for her performance in their Gala concert. Heidi also studied at the Franz-Schubert-Institut in
Austria supported by the Johann Strauss Foundation Scholarship. She was a semi-"nalist in the Rosza Foundation Competition
in Calgary, Canada where she won a ‘people’s choice’ award and was granted a Banff Centre of the Arts Scholarship for their
summer Song Institute with Edith Wiens and Ian Burnside. As a young singer she won many Festival competitions and small
scholarships, was the BC representative in the National Festival of the Arts Competition and won the Young Artist Competition
which resulted in her singing Mahler’s “Songs of the Wayfarer” with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra.
Heidi is an active recitalist, concert and opera singer having performed and studied in Canada, the United States Austria, Germany,
and Italy. She has sung as a soloist with some of the major Canadian orchestras and pianists and has won many accolades and
Concert highlights are her Debut with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Bramwell Tovey where she sang arias
by Puccini, Verdi and Dvorak. Shortly after, she was invited to sing a similar program (plus some Wagner) with the Victoria
Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Tania Miller. One of her favorite works, Verdi’s Requiem she performed with the Vancouver
Philharmonic and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Choral Fantasy with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Conductor
Operatically Heidi sings Elisabeth from Tannhäuser, Turandot, Seglinde from Die Walküre, Ariadne from Ariadne auf Naxos,
Santuzza from Cavalleria Rusticana and to include a little more playful, and lighter side, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus.
Heidi enjoys an active recital schedule of professional and personal engagements as well as outreach programs/concert. She
performs solo recitals with guest artists a number of times a year, most recently with a program of Wagner and Strauss with the
highlight being the complete Wesendonk Lieder and a scene from Die Walküre with Helden Tenor Peter Collins and pianist
Kinza Tyrell. She has performed regularly as a guest or solo spotlight for Opera Appassionata, The Opera Project, Burnaby Lyric
Opera Recital Series, Parksville Recital Series, Langley Arts Council, Women’s Musical Club, the Baltic German Society of Vancouver,
Vancouver Opera Outreach Program, The Song Circle, the Vancouver Public Library Learning Exchange, the Vancouver
Art Gallery, and the Silk Purse Art Gallery.
Alternative performances include singing opera/jazz for the BC Living Arts “George, Noel, Cole” Concert, Musical theatre Reviews
and vocal improvisation in fashion shows with international Fashion designer Jolie Chan (joliecouture.com), and two appearances
for the Tomorrow Collective ‘Brief Encounters’ with, speech artist Christa Bell and tap/hip-hop dancer Shay Kuebler.
Alongside her performing career Heidi has developed a career as a voice teacher, adjudicator, artist coach/counselor, and workshop
leader. She began teaching 18 years ago at a the World of Music in Kamloops, spent 6 years at the Tom Lee Academy in
Vancouver, this past year teaching musical theatre at the Caul"eld School of Dance, and has now moved her private studio
(www.life-sound-studio.com) from Vancouver, Canada to Frankfurt, Germany.
