Mr. Agache was born in Cluj, Rumania where he studied atThe Musik Academy. During his third year he joined the Romanian State Opera. In Cluj as soloist he made debuts in comprimario roles. In 1981, he began to make debuts in principal roles where he sang Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Valentin in Faust, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor. He graduated from the Academy in 1982, where he sang the title role in Don Giovanni. In 1983 He won the International Competition “Voci Pucciniane” in Lucca Italia. He received his first International Contract singing Il Capitan Spavento in Le Maschere by Mascagni at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno.
In 1988, after impressive debuts this Baritone’s career blossomed into a major career, he made his debut at The Royal Opera House Covent Garden performing the role of Renato in un Ballo in Maschera. He then debuted at La Scala in Milano singing the role of Belcore in L’Elisir D’Amore. At the Royal Opera House Covent Garden he performed twelve premiere productions which included: Enrico in Lucia, Renato in un Ballo, Amonasro in Aida, Simon Boccanegra, Nabucco, Gussmano (Alzira), Jago in Otello, Rigoletto,
Mr. Agache’s Discography includes: Rigoletto (C.Rizzi, Vaduva, Leech, Ramey, Larmoor), Lucia di Lammermoor (Bonygne, Gruberova, Schikoff), Faust (Rizzi, Ramey, Gasdia) Messa Per Rossini-Cantata Profana (Last Sir Solti Recording) On DVD he has Simon Boccanegra (Solti, Te Kanawa, Sivester, Scandiuzzi), Aida (Downess, O’Neal, Studer, D’Intino, Lloyd).
At La Scala Alexandru sang Belcore in L’Elizir D’Amore, Enrico in Lucia, Posa in Don Carlo. Paris Opera had him as Renato in un Ballo, the title role in Simone Boccanegra, and Rigoletto, Germont in La traviata. Vienna Staatsoper was Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore, Enrico in Lucia, Marcello in La Boheme. In the United States he has sung at the Houston Opera, Conte di Luna in Trovatore, Germont in La Traviata, Nabucco the title role, Rigoletto, Simone Boccanegra. At the Lyric Opera of Chicago he sang: Simone Bocanegra, Amonasro in Aida. At the Metropolitan Opera he sang Simone Boccanegra, Amonasro in Aida, Renato in un Ballo, and Conte di Luna in Trovatore. At the Teatro Colon he sang Jago in Otello.
Mr. Agache’s career has taken him to the major opera houses of the world which include: Staatsoper Munchen, Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg, Köln, Dresden, Bordeaux, Toulon, Toulouse, Firenze, Roma, Bologna, Palermo, Catania, Cagliari, Tokyo (National Theatre).
Alexandru has collaborated with many great stage directors like: Mojinski, Zefirelli, Nicolas Joel, and directors like: Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, James Levine, Richard Bonynge, Carlo
Rizzi, Gatti, Palombo and has sung with Pavarotti, Domingo, Ramey, Giordano, Te Kanawa and many others.
