Kassandra Dimopoulou

Kassandra Dimopoulou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. After taking her cello Diploma in New Conservatory of Thessaloniki and winning an international scholarship from “The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music” for cello studies in the Royal College of Music London, she studied both cello and singing in Germany (Hochshule fr Musik Detmold, Hochschule fuer Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart).

She has sang in several international stages and festivals, such as Staatsoper Stuttgart, National Theater Luxemburg, Festival Aix-en-Provence, Mozart Toujours in Salzburg, Monschau Klassik, Landestheater Detmold, Thessaloniki and Athens Concert Hall (Megaro Mousikis ), Opera of Thessaloniki. She has sang with orchestras such as Bolsoi Orchestra Minsk, Athens and Thessaloniki National Orchestra, State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, Orchestra of Patra, Rijeka´s Opera Orchestra, etc.

In 2008 she made her Debut in Greece (Thessaloniki Concert Hall ) in the role of Cleopatra in Handel`s “Giulio Cesare” and won great critics in the national and international press. In November 2008, “Opera Now” magazine listed Kassandra Dimopoulou as one of the promising opera singers of the future. For this role, she also won the price of the Best Newcomer Artist from the Greek Critic Association in Athens (2009). In 2011/12 season she will perform the role of Desdemona in Otello with the Knoxville Opera.

Kassandra Dimopoulou is a young promising voice, having the advantage of being already a strong stage personality, thanks to her long performing experience as a cellist but also to her dance and theatre studies (Physical Theater and Contact Improviasation Dance, Modern Dance, Butoh, in “On/Off” Studio, Bern CH and Tanz undo Theater Werksatt Ludwigsburg). In 2005 she created and performed her own theater piece, “Cello Pieces”, in Ludwigsburg (Karlskaserne), Stuttgart (teater rampe) and Thessaloniki (Vilka 1st dance festival). She has also written a theater piece for children, “The petroom”.

Since 2006 she is giving concerts with the the Greek baroque ensemble “Latinitas Nostrae”. The ensemble has a great interest in discovering, performing and recording works of unknown baroque composers.

Also contemporary music has a leading role in Kassandra’s life, always interested in performing new works. In the recent past, she has sang the leading roles in several world premiers of contemporary opera (Staatsoper Stuttgart, National Theater Luxemburg) and she regulary sings contemporary music, often written for her voice.

She studied mainly with Gabriella Lichter-Maxande, Dunja Vejzovic and R.Gimenez and has taken masterclasses with G.Dimitrova, G.Baquier, D.Vejzovic,Y.Minton, K.Widmer and R.Gimenez. She was given a scholarship from Wagner Association Bielefeld and she has won the Public's Price in the international Belcanto Competition in Rossini Festival in Bad-Wildbad.

In summer 2010 she is singing the role of Contessa di Ceprano in Verdi's "Rigoletto", in the Opera-Film production of RADA Film in Mantova, under Zubin Mehta. The Opera will be transmitted live in TV all over the world.
