Known for dramatic and vocal versatility with which she turns in consistently compelling performances, soprano Amy Pfrimmer’s career highlights include her association with composer/pianist Dave Brubeck which led to her recent London Symphony Orchestra debut, followed by her European debut with the German Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in Brubeck’s Christmas cantata La Fiesta de la Posada. Outside of the classical arena, Pfrimmer’s successes also include her New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival appearance with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in Brubeck’s classical jazz mass To Hope! Additionally, Pfrimmer was heard as the vocalist in Target’s nationally televised ClubWedd commercial called Dare Devil.
Pfrimmer attracted considerable attention as a national finalist of the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions. The awards she has received include a fellowship from Louisiana Division of the Arts, a study grant from the Metropolitan Opera’s Education Fund, the Florida Grand Opera’s Gilbert Artist of the year award (Drusilla in L’incoronazione di Poppea), awards from the Mobile Opera’s Rose Palmai-Tenser competition, Opera Birmingham, NATS, the Baton Rouge Music Club and Baton Rouge Opera Guild. Pfrimmer is an alumna of the distinguished young artist programs of the Florida Grand Opera, Virginia Opera, and Chautauqua Opera. In New Orleans, she was selected to sing the St. Louis Cathedral Hurricane Katrina memorial service where she performed for national and state dignitaries, including President George W. Bush, Governor Kathleen Blanco and Archbishop Hughes of New Orleans. In addition to performing, Pfrimmer is a dedicated teacher. She previously taught as an Artist in Residence at the University of West Florida and was a voice instructor at Loyola University of New Orleans. In the fall of 2007, Pfrimmer joined the voice faculty of Tulane University where she is currently head of vocal studies.
