Yelda Kodalli is establishing herself as one of the most important new Coloratura Soprano’s on the international scene. With her unforgettable performances in the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, Gilda in Rigoletto, and the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, She has secured a lasting place on the world’s stages.
Born in Adana, Turkey, Ms. Kodalli studied voice and piano at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Hacettepe and received her dipoloma in 1990. Her professional career began in 1991 with her debut as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute, followed by performances as Olympia in Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann, and in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor with Austrian Radio-Television. That same year she was invited to perform in a new production of the Magic Flute in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Miss Kodalli has sung the Queen of the Night in opera houses around the globe, including the Robert Wilson production of the Opera Bastille, Paris. The Strasbourg Festival, Hamburg Opera, Vienna Staatsoper, and the La Scala under the direction of Riccardo Muti. She made her Italian debut, in Turin, in a new production of the work under the direction of Daniel Oren, in 1996. 1997, she made her American debut in the same role with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Other highlights include performances of The Magic Flute in Vienna and Bilbao, and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Comunale, Florence.
Ms. Kodalli has appeared in I Puritani in Tenerife, Spain and in concerts at Verona, Stuttgart, and at the Vienna State Opera. Future engagements include Outis, by Luciano Berio, at La Scala and the Paris Chatelet.
At her Vienna debut she appeared in Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel. In Strauss’s Arabella, Ariadne auf Naxos, and Capriccio, and in Wagners’s Siegfried under the direction of Christoph Von Dohnanyi. She appeared in Lucia di Lammermoor under the direction of Bruno Bartoletti in Genova and Japan, and in Zubin Mehta’s production in Tel Aviv. She opened the 1995 season at the Teatro La Zarzuela di Madrid in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol, followed by her performance as Gilda in Rigoletto with the RAI Orchestra of Turin in Japan. She then toured with the Orchestra della Toscana under the direction of Peter Maag, and appeared in the world premiere of Outis at La Scala.
