Samuel De Palma is well known as one of the world’s most gifted Basso Verdiano. His rich, warm and vibrant Italianate timbre spans a three octave range of flawless virtuoso legato singing, reminiscent of the Golden Age of Opera. He has a dark timbre with plenty of steel to his powerful voice. His repertory includes over thirty-one major operatic roles, eight oratorios and song literature in eight languages.
Some of his favorite roles include Count Rodolfo in La Sonnambula, Lodovico in Otello, Ramfis and the King in Aida, Zacarria in Nabucco, Mephistopheles in Faust, and Sparafucile in Rigoletto. Foremost in his concert repertoire are Neopolitan Sons and his two favorite oratorios, Elijah, and The Messiah.

At the age of Seven, De Palma was sent from his native Chile to study Opera in Italy. In his teens, he worked with the world famous Hindemith at the Conservatory de Musica de Buenos Aires, Argentina. He attended the college of Social Communications, Santiago, Chile, where he received a diploma in Communication. As an aspirinig heart surgeon, he also attended the Preparation of Education General, a branch of the Medical School in Santiago. He then decided to return to his musical career. He has worked with many of the world’s leading coaches, conductors, and voice teachers in the United States, South America and Europe. He is considered to be a highly skilled and sensitive International Vocal Artist.
As a native of Santiago Chile, De Palma has performed throughout South America, The USA, and Europe at venues including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Il Fesivale Dil’Opera in Milan and the famed Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. He has performed for the Pope, Presdent Bush, and Queen Elizabeth. De Palma has worked with leading impresarios and companies, performing under the baton of Herbert Von Karajan in Wien, Alfredo Silipigni performing Zaccaria in Nabucco at Carnegie Hall, Peter Tiboris with Mid-America Productions at Carnegie Hall in the St. Nicolas Mass, Dr. Richard Laycock at Opera West, Brigham Young University, in the role of Ramfis in Aida. Ted Puffer with the Nevada Opera Association in Reno, Michaelangelo Veltri, Vincente La Ferla, Walter Cataldi-Tazoni, Anton Guadagno, Ricco Sacagni, Vincert La Selva, Aldo Bruschi, John Jennings, John Lee and Dulley Birdien.
Other International activities include: Ludovico in Otello at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago Chile, Sparafucile in Rigoletto at the famed Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Scarpia in Tosca at the Teatro Opera Equador, Count Rodolfo in La Sonnambula at the Teatro Municipal Poerto Alegre, Brazil, He performed with Jesse Norman under Ricco Sacagni in the Rossini Mass, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the New York Choral Society, Turandot and Aida at the Teatro Nazional in Verona and Liguria. He has performed with Teatro Solis Montevideo, Teatro Municipal Brazil, Cuidad de Mexico Bellas Artes, Oregon Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Columbus, and the New Jersey State Opera.
In Europe Mr. De Palma has appeared with the Vienna State Opera, Yugoslavia, and Italy. He has concertized extensively and recorded Handel’s Xerxses in Warsaw Poland. In Italia he was engaged at the Caracalla and Soleto Festivals in Perugia at the Teatro Nazionale in Verona and in Cantania, Sicilia. In Malta he was a featured performer at the Mediterranea Festival. He has performed alongside many of the world’s leading artists which include: Fiorenza Cossotto, Jose Carerras, Gilda Cruz-Romo, Alfredo Kraus, Benita Valente, Mary Costa, Piero Visconti, GianFranco Patine, Kurt Moll, Giorgio Aristo, Fabio Armilliato, Nino Menequetti, Susan Neves, Adeledia Negri, Deloris Zajick, and Eva Marton.
